A high initial ground level of clay flint mix, small access and an exceptionally hot summer made the excavation of this patio a real challenge. In addition, a high land drain made for challenging ground works however careful planning and undertaking eliminated any risk of issues.
Sleepers were used to retain the garden, whilst a sleek carbon grey limestone slab was coupled with our own mix of black sand and cement pointing to create this clean and large patio. Evergreen and pollinator friendly planting was used in the behind beds to give year round interest.
The clients also asked us to clear the back of the garden of brambles. We found around 20 frogs and newts whilst doing so and created the hibernation station to accommodate the animals we found. We also felled a large section of leggy conifer hedge and installed a mixed native hedge.
