Wilding and
Habitat Services

Making your outdoor space a little wilder.

Your land can thrive with the right habitats, species, and stewardship.

We design and deliver nature-led creation and restoration across Surrey, Sussex, and beyond

For practical inspiration on how to get started, our wildlife garden ideas guide covers the most effective changes Surrey homeowners can make — and our complete guide to wildlife ponds in Surrey goes deeper on one of the highest-impact single features you can add to any garden.

Our older posts on attracting insects, attracting birds, attracting reptiles, and attracting hedgehogs cover the specific habitat features and plant choices that make the biggest difference to each species group — many of which we incorporate as standard into our wilding and rewilding schemes.

Rewilding at Scale, and Biodiversity Net Gain

Our wilding work runs from a domestic garden corner up to whole-estate nature recovery schemes measured in hectares. On larger sites that usually means a mosaic rather than a single habitat: wetland and scrapes, species-rich grassland, scrub, hedgerow and new woodland, phased over several seasons so the land is never stripped bare at once.

Where a scheme is tied to a planning condition, we also deliver biodiversity net gain habitat alongside ecologists and planning consultants — see our habitat management page for how that works — and we can take on the long-term management the 30-year obligation requires.

You can see examples of this work across our wilding portfolio — habitat, wetland, meadow and woodland projects at a range of scales.

Wilding and Habitat Services Across Surrey, Sussex and Beyond

Whether you own a private garden, a rural estate or a patch of neglected woodland, our wilding and habitat services help you restore and enhance the natural value of your land. We combine ecological expertise with a designer’s eye to create spaces that are rich in wildlife, beautiful to experience, and built to improve year after year.

As Surrey Wildlife Trust partners, everything we do is rooted in practical, science-led conservation — not generic rewilding talk. We know the chalk soils of the North Downs, the heavy clay of the Weald, and the heathland fringes of west Surrey. Our recommendations are always specific to your site, your goals and your local conditions.

Our specialist wilding team is led by Steve Liszka, our Wilding Ranger, who brings years of hands-on conservation experience from the National Trust’s Polesden Lacey estate. Together with Gary Hillock, our Horticultural Manager, they combine ecology, horticulture and traditional countryside skills to deliver lasting results on every project.
